Application Guide
FRP Grating for Marine & Offshore
Salt spray attacks steel every hour of every day; UV attacks anything only protected on the surface. FRP grating answers both — the glass-resin structure is inert to chlorides and pigmented all the way through.
Typical installations
- Marina pontoons and dock walkway decking
- Fish farm walkways and cage access
- Jetty access platforms and ladder landings
- Offshore platform laydown and escape walkways
- Boatyard workstands and slipway decks
- Sea-wall and breakwater maintenance access
Material selection for salt environments
| Environment | System | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Marina / dock, continuous splash | ISO polyester | Standard choice; UV-stabilized surface veil |
| Permanent immersion / splash zone structures | Vinyl ester | Highest chloride and osmosis resistance |
| Offshore accommodation and escape routes | Phenolic | ASTM E84 Class 1, low smoke and toxicity; USCG/ABS dossiers on request |
Weight is the hidden benefit at sea
A floating pontoon decked in FRP carries roughly 5 kg/m² less dead load than the same area in steel grating — extra freeboard, smaller floats, and panels light enough to lift ashore by hand for seasonal maintenance.
