FRP Grating for Mining & Mineral Processing
Process water in a concentrator is often acidic, chloride-loaded and warm — a combination that eats galvanized walkways in two to three years. Add 40 kg boots, drill rods and cart traffic, and the deck has to survive corrosion and impact at the same time. That combination is why FRP grating keeps winning mining walkway specifications.
Where it goes on a mine site
- Flotation cell and thickener perimeter platforms
- Crusher and screen maintenance decks (50 mm panels)
- Reagent mixing and dosing areas — lime, frother, collector splash
- Cable trench and pipe rack covers across the plant
- Truck wash bay and workshop drainage decking
- Shaft collar access and underground pump station floors
Duty-driven selection
| Area | Recommended panel | Resin | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Walkways, platforms | 38 mm molded | ISO polyester | Gritted surface; 1 m spans typical |
| Vehicle / cart crossings | 50 mm molded or 50 mm pultruded | Vinyl ester | Check wheel loads — see the load-type guide |
| Reagent and acidic areas | 38–50 mm molded | Vinyl ester | Confirm media list against the resistance chart |
| Trench and cable covers | 30–38 mm molded, mini mesh | ISO polyester | Removable panels, lift clips for access |
Impact and abrasion in practice
Molded grating takes a knocked steel bar, a dropped liner plate or daily drill-rod traffic without losing structural integrity — damage is local, not a crack that propagates. Where abrasion is severe (boot traffic on grit over a decade), panels can be re-gritted in place with a polyurethane grit coat without shutting the platform down.
