Pickling Line Walkway Retrofit: 340 m² of Corroded Steel Replaced in Two Shutdowns
| Location | North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany |
| Completed | 2025-11 |
| Quantity | 340 m² walkway + 90 m handrail |
| Products | Molded grating 38 mm, vinyl ester · FRP handrail system · Stair treads |
The challenge
The hydrochloric pickling line's galvanized walkways were installed in 2011. By 2023, coating failure was general: rust scale flaking onto the line, three treads condemned during an annual inspection, and an insurer's survey listing access ways as a finding. The operator needed replacement that would not require future hot work inside the acid building.
The solution
JINGLUE supplied 340 m² of 38 mm molded grating in vinyl ester resin with gritted surface, 90 m of matched FRP handrail, and pre-cut stair treads. Panels were numbered against a marked-up plant drawing so the maintenance crew could install during two weekend shutdowns without measuring on site.
Outcomes
- Installed in two weekend windows; line restarted on schedule both times
- No hot-work permits required — all panels cut to size before shipment
- Weight on supporting steel reduced by ~14 kg/m² vs the removed steel grating
- Recoating program for the area cancelled from the 2026 maintenance budget
