Chemical Tank Terminal: Dyke Walkways in Vinyl Ester FRP
| Location | Jurong Island, Singapore |
| Completed | 2024-11 |
| Quantity | 950 m² + 260 m handrail |
| Products | Molded grating 38 mm, vinyl ester · Pultruded grating · FRP handrail |
The challenge
Dyke walkways serve valve platforms around tanks holding solvents, caustic and acids by turn. The steel walks had been recoated twice in eight years and remained the terminal's biggest recurring maintenance line. Tropical UV and daily tropical rainstorms added surface-degradation pressure.
The solution
950 m² of 38 mm vinyl ester molded grating on standard spans, pultruded I-bar sections at the longer valve-platform spans, and 260 m of FRP handrail with self-closing gates at each ladder point. Terminal-specific media list was checked against JINGLUE's resistance data before order confirmation.
Outcomes
- Media-by-media resin confirmation issued in writing with the quote
- Installation sequenced tank by tank so no tank was out of service twice
- Recurring recoat budget line retired from the five-year plan
- Terminal engineering adopted FRP as standard for all future dyke works
